Smart Solutions in Running a Membership Website.

When you are running a membership site, you will be continually running up against the same problems. You need to remember that they are easy to deal with, and that you will figure out a way to deal with them. If you can remember that, the other problems will take care of themselves.

You are going to face three basic problems when operating a membership site: Setting up, advertising, content. Setting your site up will always be the biggest problem, especially as not everyone has the skills needed to set up the site, and it can be especially hard to get the site to be exactly the way you want it to because of the communication issue.

The best solution is to talk with your designer as much as you can and to discuss every option in advance; this way, you are prepared for anything that happens, and the fewer the surprises the better. Being forewarned is always the smartest way to go. When it comes to building a site that, you are going to base a business on, the more forewarning the better so that you have as few surprises as possible.

Advertising is its own animal. You will need to devise your own smart solutions, as the advertising needs to be designed to fit your site. Ergo, the smartest solution is to point out that you may need to ignore some of the best advice in the business in order to properly advertise your site. You need to judge if the advice you are, being given is too generic or if it fits your solution, and to react accordingly.

The needs of your site may be different from someone else's, and not all solutions work for everyone. Some people like country, some like classical; Toby Keith won't work for classical, and Bach won't work for country and it's important to know if you are country or classical, a bit of both, or neither. Of course always listen accordingly. One site may do well with banner ads, and another will do well with discussion boards; it all depends on the nature of the site.

Content is something that you need to have some fun with, and will be the hardest part. Keep in mind that content can be anything, but that you need it. The smartest thing you can do is to at least debate hiring someone to do it for you. It will ensure that your membership site will have the best content that it can have, and that content will help bring members to your site, in turn helping your site to grow. If you're not sure of your ability to provide content or you lack the skills or patience, then finding someone to create it for you is the smartest thing that you can do.

However, you need to remember that you will solve the problem. If you go into the situation with that in mind, it will be so much easier to solve the problem than if you go into it not sure of whether you will solve it or not. A positive attitude will always be more successful than a doubting or negative one, and so it will always be the cornerstone of good business. Ergo, go into every situation with a positive attitude and you will be a success.

Take Control of the Email Deliverability Problem.

There is something fundamentally wrong about email deliverability being able to get in between your customers and you.  Under the old model of internet marketing where online businesses basically did mass mailings to anyone who had an email account, the deliverability problem had a huge impact on the payback you got from using a mass mailing service to send your marketing email out to 10,000 or 100,000 random potential customers.

But that old model was never that good in the first place.  For one thing, even though the mass mailing services told you they had access to thousands of "valid email addresses", who knows if they really did?  But even if they had a low "bounce rate", this scattershot method has never been the most effective form of marketing on or off the internet.  Even before internet marketing became a big part of how you do business, a  better business model was to build a relationship with a niche market, market to that niche by capitalizing on the relationship and then see a greater return on your marketing investment because the you are working with a client base that has an identifiable need that your product or service addresses.

This new model works just as well online.  You build your relationships with your client base on your web site using interactive techniques.  You establish relationship and trust through the sales and support process.  Then with that mailing list of established and "real" customers, you launch your email marketing plan on much firmer footing.

But email deliverability continues to be a fly in the ointment because working through public ISPs, you have to jump through the hoops that are there to trap old model spammers just to talk to customers you already know.  And if you don't, you will see spam traps and other controls stop you from having access to your established customer community.  This kind of restraint of trade, even if unintentional, is unacceptable. So there is good reason to take control of the email deliverability problem.

You have the resources to take that control through your mailing list and your online registration of web site members.  In that you have a domain, you also have the ability to give your customers an email account on your domain.  This is a bold step but by using some technical wizardry, you an automatically give your customers a private email account on your domain with your business domain name that becomes part of their identity.  Your customers will love it because it is an email account they can use for anything and you and sweeten the pot by running contests and give aways exclusively through your own private email network.

The next step is just to let your customers collect their private emails through their local copy of Microsoft Outlook or whatever email client they use.  Your internet technical gurus can come up with a script that can automatically set up the Outlook parameters so the customer can have that up and running in a matter of moments.

Presto Chango, your private email network now goes directly to the customers desktop email server.  There is no spam because its private.  You have 24/7 access to that email account for marketing and because you control that domain completely, email deliverability problems are a thing of the past.  So stop jumping through ISP hoops and fighting the mass mailing spam filter wars.  Take control by building your niche market and then equipping your niche market to communicate directly with you.  Its smart use of technology and you can kiss email delivery problems goodbye.

THE ADVANTAGES OF "RSS WEBSITES"

RSS - or what is now known as "Really Simple Syndication" - is a file format that is incorporated by Internet users in their websites to allow for 'web syndication', making their web content available in a format that can be universally understood by other people.

In essence, RSS is a 'mini database' that contains headlines and descriptions (a summary or a line or two of the full article) of your web content, including hyperlinks that enable users to link back to the full article of their choice.

RSS websites - that is, websites that contain RSS 'feeds' (articles or postings) - typically have colorful graphics to indicate to users that the specific web content is available through RSS feeds. These graphics are usually depicted by orange rectangles that are usually marked with 'RSS' or 'XML'.

With its increased popularity, RSS is now being adopted and used by more website owners or publishers. Today, numerous resources are now available that aid Internet surfers (and even beginners as well) on how to set up and use RSS.

Setting up RSS feeds and adding them to your website can be a simple process that does not involve a lot of time or any money. Listed below are some simple and basic steps that you might want to follow:

1. Have your web content and/or news in an RSS feed format, such as XML (appropriate and 'ready-made' feeds are also available from other sources).

2. Click the orange graphic - this is the RSS feed icon. Take note of the URL of the RSS feed; this will be displayed in the address bar (for Internet Explorer).

3. Input the feed URL on your RSS feed creation program.

4. Click on the "Generate Feed" button. This will generate the RSS code for your web content.

5. Enter the RSS code in the appropriate place on your own website.

Having created an RSS feed for your website, next comes the task of publishing your web content and news and having them displayed on other sites and headline viewers. This is made possible with the use of RSS readers or aggregators.

RSS readers or news aggregators are used to view particular web contents. RSS readers contain the collection of 'feeds' or RSS files from content providers, and they are generally classified into 3 types:

· Desktop RSS readers - also known as standalone desktop application, they generally 'run' in the background and are similar to an e-mail client, collecting the feeds and refreshing items automatically as they are updated.

· Web-based aggregators - these are online services that enable users to personalize web pages, refreshing them each time the page is accessed or each time a person logs in to the service.

· Plug-in aggregators/readers - these make use of either web browsers or e-mail clients, which allow users to view RSS feeds while inside an existing program.

Having an RSS-enabled website provides Internet users (especially those who are website owners) with the following benefits:

· Allows users to generate up-to-date news and postings, as information and content in the RSS readers or aggregators are automatically updated each time the RSS feed is 'refreshed'.

· Allows users to have control over the information that they wish to view or receive, as they can remove a feed of their choosing any time they want to.

Aside from these benefits, RSS websites are also useful for people who conduct their business in the Internet, particularly in Internet or Online Marketing. RSS can be an effective marketing tool for your website, especially in the following fields:

· E-mail marketing and publishing
· Search engine marketing and optimization
· Business blogging
· Internet advertising
· Digital public relations
· Branding and e-commerce

In addition, RSS can 'power' your website, providing you with the following:

· Valuable, updated, and relevant resources for site visitors and potential clients - RSS is ideal for websites that contain (and syndicate) a lot of information that has to be changed or updated regularly.

· Search engine optimization for the website.

· Increased traffic for the website - your website can 'harvest' and display information from other sites, driving more traffic to your own website.

· A wide selection of 'channels' for content distribution, such as PDA's, cellular phones, voice mails, and email ticklers.

· A reliable way to have your web content delivered to Internet users and potential clients - RSS ensures that your site is viewed by the people who are interested in them, without having them blocked and 'cleaned' by ISPs or Spam filters.

These are just some of the advantages that RSS can give your website (and your business). The possibilities are endless, as more and more comes up almost everyday. Do not be left behind - take the advantage of the marketing and publishing power of RSS.

A GUIDE ON RSS TOOL

RSS is an abbreviation that has evolved into the following, depending on their versions:

· RDF Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.9; the first version of RSS)

· Rich Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.91; a prototype)

· Really Simple Syndication (also known as RSS 2.0)

Today, RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication', and it has the following 7 existing formats or versions:

· 0.90
· 0.91
· 0.92
· 0.93
· 0.94
· 1.0
· 2.0

RSS tools refer to a group of file formats that are designed to share headlines and other web content (this may be a summary or simply 1 to 2 lines of the article), links to the full versions of the content (the full article or post), and even file attachments such as multimedia files. All of these data is delivered in the form of an XML file (XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language), which has the following common names:

· RSS feed
· Webfeed
· RSS stream
· RSS channel

They are typically shown on web pages as an orange rectangle that usually has the letters XML or RSS in it.

RSS feeds can be used to deliver any kind of information. Some of these 'feeds' include:

· Blogs feed - each blog entry is summarized as a feed item. This makes blog posts easier to scan, enabling 'visitors' to zoom in on their items of interest.

· Article feed - this alerts readers whenever there are new articles and web contents available.

· Forum feed - this allows users to receive forum posts and latest discussion topics.

· Schedule feed - this allows users (such as schools, clubs, and other organizations) to broadcast events and announce schedule changes or meeting agendas.

· Discounts or Special feed - this is used to enable users (such as retail and online stores) to 'deliver' latest specials and discounted offers.

· Ego or News Monitoring - this enables users to receive 'filtered' headlines or news that are based on a specific phrase or keyword.

· Industry-specific feed - used by technical professionals in order to market, promote, or communicate with current (and prospective) customers and clients within their specific industries.

RSS feeds enable people to track numerous blogs and news sources at the same time. To produce an RSS feed, all you need is the content or the article that you want to publicize and a validated RSS text file. Once your text file is registered at various aggregators (or 'news readers'), any external site can then capture and display your RSS feed, automatically updating them whenever you update your RSS file.

RSS tools are useful for sites that add or modify their contents on a regular basis. They are especially used for 'web syndication' or activities that involve regular updates and/or publications, such as the following:

· News websites - as used by major news organizations such as Reuters, CNN, and the BBC.
· Marketing
· Bug reports
· Personal weblogs

There are many benefits to using RSS feeds. Aside from being a great supplemental communication method that streamlines the communication needs of various sectors, RSS tools and feeds can also have tremendous benefits in your business, particularly in the field of internet marketing.

RSS tools and feeds provide Internet users with a free (or cheap) and easy advertising or online marketing opportunity for their businesses. Below are some of the RSS features that can help make your internet marketing strategies more effective.

1. Ease in content distribution services. With RSS, your business can be captured and displayed by virtually any external site, giving you an easy way to 'spread out' and advertise them.

2. Ease in regular content updates. With RSS, web contents concerning your business can now be automatically updated on a daily (and even hourly) basis. Internet users will be able to experience 'real time' updates as information in your own file (such as new products and other business-related releases) is changed and modified simultaneously with that of the RSS feeds that people are subscribed to.

3. Custom-made content services. With RSS, visitors can have personalized content services, allowing them total control of the flow and type of information that they receive. Depending on their interests and needs, visitors can subscribe to only those contents that they are looking for (such as real estate or job listings).

4. Increase in (and targeted) traffic. With RSS, traffic will be directed to your site as readers of your content summary (or 1 to 2 lines of your article) who find them interesting are 'forced' to click on a link back to your site.

These are just several of the many things that you can do with RSS. The possibilities are endless, and they are all aimed at providing you with an effective internet marketing strategy for your business.

100% conversion rate on your website visitors

Major television networks have been in control of what you watch, when you watch it and how often you watch the programs that interest you. With the social boom caused by web 2.0 including social networks and online movies and video, major television networks can no longer confine your mind to their broadcasts for entertainment.

Chris Anderson (author of The Long Tail) hit the nail right on the head... In his book, he predicted that television's viewing audience will spend more time on the Internet than watching TV. This former viewing audience will entertain themselves by going to websites they are interested in (to do whatever is more interesting to them than watching TV). Chris predicted that people will spend their time more involved in their personal "long tail" interests.

This trend is bad news for the television networks!

The Internet offers television’s former viewing audience better entertainment because they can do, see and hear what they want and when they want. The big television networks no longer have a monopoly on the public’s entertainment and mind share.

To make matters worse... with the advent of DVR (digital video recorders) less and less people are watching television commercials (the lifeblood of the major TV networks). The average person with Internet access is spending 4 times longer online than watching TV. The effectiveness of television advertising is dwindling exponentially and to make matters worse, 90% of DVR owners are fast forwarding through television commercials!

The truth is, people hate commercials. We all know that sigh when you're intensely involved in your favourite TV show just to be distracted by 2 minutes of commercials. Most people have learned to ignore commercials, even if they are watching them!

All the big brand advertisers that you see on television are well aware of the fact that their advertising dollars are not as well invested in television ads as they once were. These major brands, including the BIG 8 in advertising, have been looking to the Internet as an alternate form of advertising for quite some time now.

For the first time in history thousands of people are going to share in revenue that was formerly paid to major television networks. Millions of dollars are going to be paid on a residual basis to a "core group" of marketing partners... No hype intended or implied!
PPP is a way for advertisers (Like Harley Davidson or Taco Bell) to serve a 5 second audio advertisement to website visitors. It is a way for advertisers to target their 5 second audio ad to specific interests, demographics and geographic locations.

Big TV's ad revenue is dwindling because PPP offers advertisers a more cost effective advertising solution that has been providing positive Return on Investment (ROI) for over 2 years. PPP offers advertisers a way to reach their target audience and is the only form of media whose impressions and ad placements are verified by an independent 3rd party.
PPP is not new, it has been running for 2 ½ years, has over 66,000 advertisers and over 550,000 websites that serve PPP ads to their visitors.

The 550,000+ websites that currently serve these ads are responsible for 43 million streams (impressions) of advertisers' 5 second audio ads on a monthly basis.

A Look into Nokia’s Sponsorship Program

As one of today’s leading brand of telecommunications technology, Nokia has proven true to its vision of ‘connecting people’. The use of their brand spans countries from those in Asia to America, and is widely known as a tried, tested and versatile mobile instrument.

With its rapid growth over the years, Nokia is now seen as a power corporation capable of developing ubiquitous, intuitive and beautiful technology. Its growth is duly based on the company’s strategy on growing, building, and transforming its products and services based on the needs of the changing times – all of which have been a pinnacle point in the company’s success.

As a well-established corporation, Nokia in turn has taken up the responsibility of ‘giving back’ to the community. It aims to be an environmental leader by developing environmentally sound commerce practices; and producing products that offer sustenance. In addition, Nokia has also taken up the goal of taking up a role in society by providing a number of programs that aid in community development.

Sponsorship guidelines

As part in community involvement and at the same time in marketing communications, Nokia involves sponsorship as an integral part of their business strategy. A number of requests for sponsorship, prizes, support, and assistance of all sorts are received by Nokia often.

Because of the huge amount of sponsorship requests, the need for setting guidelines for such were developed by the company as a means for screening viable proposals. These guidelines involve a number of requirements that a sponsorship proposal should encompass in order for it to garner the attention it needs.

The key requirements that Nokia looks for in sponsorship proposals are the following:

• The proposal should be relevant and fitting with Nokia’s brand

• The proposal must provide a clear message towards Nokia’s consumers, clients, and/or buyers

• The proposal should be innovative, creative, and unique and to be able to stand out

• There should be a clear and solid outline that shows a return of investment

• The proposal should exude an excellence in execution and logistics

In addition to the key requirements mentioned above, there is additional information that should be in a potential sponsorship that assists Nokia in its proposal evaluation. These are:

• Details on the organization that requests for sponsorship – this includes name, full address, organization description, and relevant credentials

• An outline and description of key persons in the organization that are involved in the proposal

• Details on the benefits and their corresponding numerical value that Nokia will acquire from sponsoring

• A full detailed description on the event that is to be sponsored – this includes the location, venue, and time.

• A valid timeline of the proposal/project

• An exact requirement on the type of support Nokia is to provide

• Details on the exposure extent that Nokia will have in sponsoring the event

• Information on other sponsors involved in the event

All these are required for Nokia to give its consideration on taking up a sponsorship proposal. There are also tips that the company includes for an even more attention-grabbing sponsorship. The reason for giving out such tips and hints is the company’s desire to be able to give out as much sponsorships that will both profit them and their sponsee.

Some tips and hints that Nokia shares are the following:

• Be sure to include the following information, as it sometimes has a tendency to not be included – name, return contact numbers, and valid address

• Proposals can be emailed but should be under five megabytes

• Pictures, images and such are very helpful

• The proposal should be short but have quality information

• Don’t waste time ‘sucking up’ to Nokia, but instead focus on what is requested

• Do definitive research

• Clearly outline the benefits for both sponsor and sponsee

• Persistence is key, but it does not mean ‘hassling’ the company with numerous update calls and emails

AdSense Hints & Advice Revised

Most people have tried and failed to make money at AdSense, however they found it is not quite as easy as people made out. A lot of people fail to get anywhere near the Click Thru Rate they need or the keywords they have chosen are generating poor earnings. Here are a few tips on hopefully helping you improve and hopefully make some decent money.

Hint #1 Try and make use of all the ads available, obviously you don't want to make your website look like one long advert but if you have enough content you can place your adverts around the page and it will look ok.

Hint #2: Make your Ads look like the page.
Everyone surfing the web is expecting adverts on pages, in fact they will be shocked if there aren't any. Google AdSense lets you change the colours of your adverts the common consensus amongst the experts is to make the ads blend with your website as much as possible. But others think it is better to make them stand out. So try different combinations and see which works best for your site.

Hint #3: Make sure your page has the correct ads.
A lot of sites are not targeted enough so AdSense puts a wide range of different adverts on the page. Do some research into keywords and try and make each page concentrate on a keyword or phrase. If your page is content rich and has ample keywords the adverts will mirror the page content and you are more likely to get clicks from your visitors. At the end of the day they have come across your site looking for those keywords the odds are good they will leave looking for the same keywords.

Hint #4 Make your site presentable
It is pointless having a content rich site with great keywords if it looks like a child made it. If you are no good at web design try a freelancer they do jobs very cheap now. Try not to have popups we all hate them so why try and subject your potential customers to them.

Make AdSense work for you.

Essential Software To Have On Your PC

Here is a list of essential software which you need to install on your PC. Some of these are critical such as the antivirus software. Make your own judgment as to whether you need them or not.

1. Microsoft Office/Open Office
An office application suite will give you a word processor, spreadsheet and a presentation software. The most famous one is Microsoft Office. An alternative is OpenOffice which you can download for free at http://www.openoffice.org/

OpenOffice’s major advantage is that it is FREE and is compatible with most of Microsoft’s Office. Unless you are sending and receiving important documents to companies/clients, OpenOffice is good enough for every day tasks.

2. Antivirus Software
As soon as your PC is setup with the basic applications, download the free antivirus software AVG at http://free.avg.com/ This free antivirus works very well in protecting your computer from viruses. Although it is free, you’ll still get free updates to the program almost daily. Many people have used this antivirus software for a long time without any problems.

3. Download Manager
FlashGet at http://www.flashget.co m is a download manager which allows you to download programs and data quickly from the internet. You can use it to download several files at once and it also helps you in resuming downloads if your internet connection is broken half way.Flash Get is free and will save you a lot of time in managing your downloads.

4. Compression Software
The most widely used compression software is WinZip at http://www.winzip.com It compresses any files you have to reduce the size.

Normally this utility is used to make the file smaller to be sent over the internet or to consolidate several files and folders into one zip file. A good alternative to Winzip is WinRar which you can download for
free at http://www.win-rar.com/ It compresses file into .rar extensions
but it also supports Winzip files.
I also HIGHLY recommend this free one http://www.zipgenius.com/

5. Backup Software
Backing up your PC is one of the most important things you need to do regularly, to prevent yourself from disasters. If your hard disk crashes or is damaged, then you have a good chance of losing your data. Also, if you try to install your computer from scratch, it will take you a whole day to install all applications and applying the latest updates from the internet.

You can save a lot of time by using backup software so that you can retrieve important data.
FBackup at http://www.fbackup.com/ is a free backup software which can safely secure your data if disaster happens. It is advised that you set up a schedule to backup your data such as daily, after you finish working.

This software has a user friendly interface and does the backup job effectively. An added benefit is that the software will also backup your‘open files’. These are files which are in use when you are working on your PC. This means that you can make a backup of your PC while you are working on it.You can use the software to backup your data to an external hard disk or onto DVDs.

6. Mirroring Software
A mirroring software is essential although you’ll rarely use it. It makes a mirror image of your entire hard disk so that if you want to reinstall your PC, you can do it quickly by restoring the mirror image.
So after you have installed all the basic software for your PC and are updated with the latest Windows patches, you can create a mirror image of your hard disk and store it onto DVDs. Whenever you want to reinstall your PC you can do so within an hour or so by using the software.A good free mirroring software is Macrium Reflect at http://www.macrium.com/ReflectFree.asp

iPhone Utilities Everyone Must Have

It's easy to say that one of the best aspects of the Apple iPhone is the fact that you can personalize your iPhone based on your own personality.  True customization of applications is one of the greatest reasons why so many individuals are flocking to the iPhone.  However, it is with the near daily introductions of new applications that makes the iPhone so amazing.  If you are known for getting your point across, and not being afraid to say what is on your mind, than you will love the Marq application for the iPhone.

This application is low-tech, however, it promises to get your message across to anyone you want to.  The reason why this application is called Marq is because it simulates a marquee-style.  How this application works is by you typing in any message that you want, and then it is displayed in a powerful marquee-style method, which scrolls across your iPhone screen.

This is a great way to get your thoughts heard, and you can do so in a unique way.  You are given the ability to change the speed of the text, the colors as well as the message field.  The Marq application is a fun addition to any iPhone.  However, there are other iPhone applications that serve a more practical purpose.  One of these applications is the iRibbit, which is literally like having eBay on your cell phone.  This amazing application allows you to not only view items that are up for bit, but they let you actually bid on items as well.  If you are an avid eBayer, than you must have this application for your iPhone.

Many people are worried about using these type of applications for placing bids on eBay, especially if you eBay for a living.  However, this application won first place in the eBay International Widget Contest.  So, you can bid in confidence that you are getting the upmost in security, stability and simplicity.  Whether you just want to look for items to purchase, or if you want to run your entire eBay store through your cell phone, you can do so with this application.

Another great feature about this application is the fact that you can also manage your watch list, by adding and removing items.  This is a great application to have if you are not always able to be by your computer, but you want to make sure you don't miss out on the latest Nintendo Wii auction.

Applications are a great way to customize your iPhone, as well as create a unique and powerful way to communicate with the world around you.  Whether you want to have an application that is silly and does nothing more than provide you and your friends with entertainment, or if you have a more serious purpose for these applications, such as running your eBay store.  No matter why you need an application, or what type of application, you can find practically any widget for your specific needs.  And it is this that makes the iPhone such an incredible tool in communication and productivity.

Best Editing Software For Your Web Videos

Let's say that you just got back home from an amazing day of filming for your web video.  You are certain that the video will gain you massive amounts of attention and traffic to your website; however, as you sit down at your computer you realize that you are missing something very important - editing software.  You can have the greatest camcorder in the world, however, if you do not have sufficient editing software, than your web video will look unprofessional and unappealing.  Editing software is extremely important for anyone who wants to make web videos, because this is how your video is actually put together.

There are literally hundreds of different types of video editing software available for you to choose from, however, the results you will have greatly depend on the type of editing software you use.  While many editing systems boast that they will give you amazing results, when you are a first-time web video filmmaker, you will need an editing software that is powerful, yet user-friendly.  And throughout the years there are several editing software companies that have proven themselves in the filmmaking field.  Perhaps the most popular editing software is Final Cut Pro.  This great software will allow you to edit your video quickly, easily and professionally.  Actually, many film industry professionals rely on Final Cut Pro to give them the high-quality results they require.

You can get these same types of results from Final Cut Pro, even if you are filming with an average grade digital camcorder.  This is because within the Final Cut Pro system, you can add filters and effects that will create a web video that looks as if it was made by top Hollywood filmmakers.  There has really never been an editing software that is so complete, and yet, so easy to use.  Actually, Final Cut Pro has won the coveted Emmy award for its wonderful additions to the film making world.  Imagine what your web video will look like after you have edited it with this wonderful software?

Another great film editing software is the Windows Movie Maker.  If you have a recent computer that runs on the Windows operating system, than you will most likely have Windows Movie Maker already installed onto your computer.  While this isn't the most comprehensive and professional editing software, it will still provide you with ample resources to compile a very professional and appealing web video.

It is true that the quality of your web video greatly depends on the camera you use, however, it also depends on the exact type of film editing software that you use.  Even if you can't afford the highest-grade editing software, there are still many great, and free, editing software suites that you can use, all of which will give you results that you'll be proud to show off.

Hit the target: Target your advertising to make it pay off

This article was originally written for people advertising martial arts schools. The principles of targeting are the same no matter what you are advertising.

How well you target your advertising will determine your advertising success. Targeting means you put your ad in front of the people most likely to respond to it. It also means that you tailor your ad to that audience, so they are more likely to respond.

The first thing you need to do is to figure out who your audience is. If you are trying to sell your kids program you want to target parents. If your ad is for daytime classes you might target stay at home moms. Think about what you want your ad to do and the audience most likely to make it happen.
Make sure your targeted audience has the money to take advantage of your offer. Sending out a direct mail ad for $2000 weekend seminar in a town where biggest employer just laid everybody off is probably not going to work.

Try drawing up a profile of someone in your typical demographic. It might be a list of characteristics like this: Unmarried male age 25-40, college educated, income over $35,000 per year.

How does this information help you?
The first way this helps you is that it tells you where to place your ad. Going by this demographic profile I might place a print ad in the sports section of the local newspaper. I might also put flyers in health food stores, gyms, and other establishments. I could also predict what radio and TV shows my demographic is likely to watch.

The next way this helps me is that it helps me write my ad. With this demographic I may decide to present my martial arts classes as a powerful, intellectually stimulating, and health promoting experience. I am guessing that these are things my demographic might be interested in.

It will also help me with the design of my ad. I do want my ad to stand out, but I will look at other ads targeted to this demographic and see what other advertisers use to appeal to my audience.

If I were targeting young women (who are sadly underrepresented in the martial arts) I would definitely use a picture of a woman or women in my ad. Martial arts can sometimes be perceived as a boy's game – so, to attract women you have to show that your school is also appealing to women. I might even have glowing testimonials from several of your female students.

Severe WARNING: I do not use fear to advertise my self defense or martial arts classes. I once read an ad - printed in red, which talked about how women who didn't sign up for a self defense class might be the victim of sexual assault. I not only find this in really bad taste, but it's a terrible advertising idea.

Your ads should only be about positive things or people will start to associate being scared with your school. This is an important concept when it comes to "branding". People should associate feeling empowered with your school.

To fill your kids' classes with vibrant energetic youth, you want to attract parents who want the best for their kids. Your ad should make parents feel like they are really doing right by their kids by signing them up. Tell them how your young students get better grades, have more self-discipline, and wind up happier kids with lots of friends who are into healthy activities.

Google Adsense has taken the world by storm.

Now the small guy can get a slice of big profits. But exactly how should one go about generating revenue from it? This article is designed to help you to decide what sort of web-page to make – one that will realize the largest profits.

First you should pick a theme where there is at least some competition. That is to say, if you choose a family history web page, you may only get genealogy ads in your Adsense boxes. These may be very low paying ads and hardly worth your while. Before building a web page you should check and see how much people are paying for a certain type of ad. To that end – PC Bidbrowser will give you an idea how much advertisers are paying at Overture, and you can extrapolate or take an educated guess at Adsense.

But is finding the highest paying keyword the best way to build a page around? Consider the point that there may be so much competition that your web-page may never see the light of day. If no-one ever reads your site, you have no clicks, hence no revenue. No, the money-making truth lies somewhere in the middle. You need a topic that has low enough competition that people will actually find it on search engines, but also high enough competition that you will receive some cash from advertisers.

A neat program called ‘keyword sleuth’ allows you to find alternate keywords that are still highly searched yet low in competition. Other programs do similar functions.

Find 6 or so topics that you find a nice balance between competition and reward. Now how do you build a web-page that will give some new slant on the topic?

Does your web-page really need to be unique? Perhaps you could write an interesting page or two about the subject along with some links. For instance, perhaps you want to write a site on stock market trading. If you’ve ever been in the stock market you could write a real life trading experience. Make it exciting, while keeping it truthful. What led you to invest? What stocks did you trade and why? Did you make money or lose some? Do you have any advice to give to new investors? Could you find a couple of links for free screeners or some other tool that would be useful? Did you employ any special techniques – humorous or not?

You see, it doesn’t have to be about making millions with your trading system, it can be a funny life experience which we all can learn from.

Thanks for reading and I hope you start your profitable business soon.
